Position Title: Community Oral Hygiene Initiative (COHI) Dental Worker Aide

Wage/ Salary: Based on experience
Position Summary:
Under the indirect supervision of the COHI Dental Hygienist, the Dental Worker Aide (DWA) provides a community-based oral health preventive program that targets children ages 0 to 7, their caregivers and pregnant women to prevent and control tooth decay in young First Nation (FN) children who are living in Lake Manitoba, Little Saskatchewan, Dauphin River and Kinonjeoshtegon.
Responsibility
The Dental Worker Aide is responsible for:
- Collecting and ensuring permission forms are completed accurately
- Completing and maintaining Dental Service Daily Records and Dental Screening Form for all children ages 0-7 years enrolled in COHI
- Maintain a record of parent(s)/caregiver(s) and children referred to the community provider
- Maintain and update referral list for COHI records as requested by Dental Hygienist
- Maintain records of distribution of materials (ie. Toothbrush/toothpaste, COHI kits, etc.)
- Maintain a monthly record of activities and attendees (ie. Prenatal sessions and preschool sessions)
- Maintains and stores client dental records, COHI program records, manuals, and files.
- Maintains filing cabinets and office furniture such as desk and chair if available.
- Maintains established inventory levels of supplies and health promotion resources to ensure COHI program activities are provided.
- Operates some dental equipment such as the dental chair, dental light, steam sterilizer, ultrasonic cleaner.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Post-secondary education, Dental Care Certificate, or other related experience
- Good understanding of dental medical terminology
- Knowledge, sensitivity and awareness of the history, culture and unique needs of the Aboriginal population
- Ability to accurately translate and speak English and Ojibway/ Cree is an asset
- Filing experience
- Ability to inter-relate constructively with staff, physicians, patients, residents and their families
- Basic knowledge and experience in computers
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Valid driver’s license is mandatory and access to a vehicle is required
- Ability to travel
