JOB TITLE: Tribal Wellness Therapist

Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Health, the Tribal Wellness Therapist is community driven and motivated to actively support and work with IRTC’s Health Team, Leadership and communities to ensure families receive comprehensive community health and essential services without denial, delay or disruption, improving the quality of lives for children, adolescence and their families. The IRTC Holistic Therapist will strive to build capacity in the First Nation communities on and off-reserve to facilitate the access and delivery of health, wellness and essential services. Coordination activities will include program delivery, monitoring, evaluation, research, and creating a model of best practice while actively supporting and collaborating with programs in each of the affiliated and independent communities in the IRTC region, programs & staff and other specialized service providers to assure the successful achievement of IRTC’s vision, mission and program objectives.
The Tribal Wellness Therapist will ensure quality health and essential services are accessible, delivered and culturally sensitive to the individual, family and community needs through professional consultative services with other service providers (nurses, doctors, education, health and wellness, psychologists etc.), coordinated community collaborations and engagements, community awareness and capacity, and administrative/coordination supports.
Qualifications:
• Degree in Social Services or Nursing, Health, Social Sciences, Human Services or Equivalent
• Applied Counselling Certificate
• Minimum 5 year’s experience working with First Nation families and communities
• Knowledge of community resources on and off reserve available to clients and their families
• Strong conflict resolution skills, an understanding, sensitivity, and cultural safety and awareness of the social and cultural history of Indigenous people
• Valid emergency First Aid/CPR certification
• Strong advocacy skills to advocate on behalf of families/clients
• Ability to use tact and good judgement in dealing with sensitive and complex issues
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi service team
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential
• Expertise with case management and the development of integrated case plans
• Knowledge and experience working with children with special needs
• Must have a class 5 drivers license, reliable vehicle and ability to travel
