JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Health Promotion, Prevention & Harm Reduction Supervisor, the Tribal Brighter Futures Coordinator’s main focus is to work with IRTC’s First Nations in the planning, development and implementation of the Brighter Futures Program. The Tribal Brighter Futures Coordinator will strive to build capacity in the First Nation communities through supporting community Brighter Futures Workers in the delivery of culturally sensitive wellness services to children, youth, and families in IRTC’s affiliated First Nations. Coordination activities will include program delivery, monitoring, evaluation, research, and creating a model of best practice while actively supporting and collaborating with IRTC’s programs. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Provide supervision, supports and assistance to IRTC’s Brighter Futures Workers via telephone/email/in-person with planning, organizing, implementing, case and file management practices, maintaining and evaluating Brighter Futures Program activities that are culturally relevant.
• Plan / develop / facilitated / coordinate culturally sensitive training, workshops, practices and tools to build awareness and capacity. For example: Crisis Management, Crisis Intervention, Trauma and Grief, Suicide Prevention, Mental Health First Aid, Safe TALK, ASIST, CPR First Aid, Parenting, Healthy Babies, Child Development, Injury Prevention, Anger Management, Violence Management, Supporting Loved Ones etc.
• Support and provide current Brighter Futures Program information, resources, materials, conferences and workshops to build capacity and community awareness.
• Collaborate with IRTC’s Health Programs on joint activities.
• Develops, coordinates and oversees the implementation of IRTC’s Brighter Futures Program under Public Health Agency of Canada.
QUALIFICATION:
• A University degree / College diploma in social services, social work or related discipline with equivalent combination of knowledge, skills and 2-3 years of work experience.
• 2-3 years of experience in program management/coordination, community wellness, case management, working with at risk populations, and preferably within a First Nation environment.
• Other health professional designation/certification training. E.g. Counseling Certification, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, CPR First Aid, Crisis Response, Safe TALK, Anger Management, Suicide Prevention etc.
• Knowledge of Brighter Futures strategies, community and individual wellness practices/tools in First Nations wellness care, challenges and opportunities specific to the communities served.
• Experienced with public speaking, presentations skills and workshop facilitation.
• Must have a class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle and ability to travel.
• Must be able to provide a Criminal Record Check.
• Ability to speak and understand Saulteaux/Ojibway an asset.
