ANISHINAABE AND DAKOTA TERRITORY, MB — The Interlake Reserves Tribal Council (IRTC) and its member communities including the Chiefs and Councils are sending our condolences and prayers to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) and Chief of Police Doug Palson’s family, friends and policing colleagues. The Manitoba First Nations Police Service is a first of its kind in Manitoba, and IRTC was in discussions with MFNPS and Chief of Police.
While it is a difficult time for all those who knew Doug Palson, we want to share our heartfelt concern and wellbeing for those grieving during this time. IRTC worked with the Manitoba First Nations Police Service to look into services and solutions for our communities in keeping them safe and protected in their time of need. “We will continue to work with the MFNPS to get the adequate policing and safety our community members deserves; our prayers and condolences to Doug’s family and the MFNPS during this difficult time” shares Chairman Cornell McLean
“The IRTC stands with this organization and if any support is needed, we are here for them and their members”, says Chief Lawrence Letandre, and an retired RCMP member. He also adds “We will continue to support the MFNPS and hope they can continue working with us in our communities that need these essential services to keep us safe. Doug was a great advocate for our communities, and excellent in helping us get the help we need to run a safe community.”
