IRTC releases guiding principles for procurement in First Nations communities

Procurement policy establishes clear, transparent, and fair processes for the acquisition of products and services exceeding $50,000

Treaty Two Territory – To support economic development within First Nations communities, uphold Indigenous rights, and ensure fiscal responsibility and legal compliance, Interlake Reserves Tribal Council (IRTC) has released a procurement policy for the acquisition of products and services exceeding a value of $50,000 CAD.

“IRTC is proud to release a procurement policy that establishes clear, transparent, and fair processes for the acquisition of products and services exceeding a value of $50,000,” said IRTC Executive Director Karl Zadnik. “We’re committed to purchasing practices that foster economic participation by Indigenous businesses while maintaining fairness, accountability, and transparency.”

The four guiding principles of IRTC’s newly released procurement policy are transparency and accountability, support for Indigenous businesses, fairness and competition, and legal and ethical compliance. IRTC is committed to supporting First Nation economic development by mandating set-asides and prioritizing contracts with First Nation-owned businesses and contracts which align with the interests of First Nations.

“By following this policy, IRTC strengthens its commitment to Indigenous self-determination and responsible governance,” added Zadnik.
